(ISO) International Organization for Standardization

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an independent, non-governmental, international organization that develops and publishes standards. These standards provide guidelines and specifications for products, services, and systems to ensure their quality, safety, and efficiency.

ISO was founded in 1947 and has a membership of 162 national standardization bodies, including those from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan. ISO's mission is to promote the development of standardization and related activities in the world with a view to facilitating the international exchange of goods and services and to developing cooperation in the spheres of intellectual, scientific, technological, and economic activity.

Some of the well-known ISO standards include ISO 9001 for quality management systems, ISO 14001 for environmental management systems, and ISO 27001 for information security management systems. ISO also develops standards for areas such as technology, health care, and environmental protection.
